New ITU-R model for building loss agreed

At the recent ITU-R Study Group 3 meeting in Geneva on March 30th , a new model for ‘building entry loss’ was agreed. Developed over a year of strongly collaborative effort by a group chaired by Plum’s Richard Rudd, this model is based on recent measurements carried out by many organisations including NASA, Ericsson, Telstra, Orange, Ofcom, Huawei, Plum and others.

The first use of the new model is expected to be in the compatibility studies required in advance of WRC-19, relating to spectrum allocations for 5G services above 24 GHz. The model is, however, generally applicable at frequencies from 80 MHz to 100 GHz, and should find wide application in studies relating to broadcasting, cellular, satellite and other services.
