The study was undertaken to inform on recent developments in Wi-Fi technology and deployments and the potential implications for future spectrum demand.  Extensive analysis of technical developments relating to Wi-Fi, discussions with Wi-Fi service providers and equipment vendors were undertaken to inform the study.

The current status of deployments were explored in the UK and elsewhere.  Also measurements were made of the number of access points available detected on each 2.4 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi channel during a series of walk around surveys covering the Victoria, Westminster, South Bank, Covent Garden and City areas of London.

Finally three specific deployment scenarios were developed in order to estimate future demand for Wi-Fi spectrum over the medium to long term (2024).
