Tim Miller moderated the economics expert roundtable in Budapest, which focussed on trends in telecommunications and ICT industries over the next five years and the associated challenges with ensuring these developments can happen. The panel of nine experts discussed developments in six key product and service areas:
- Electronics and photonics
- System software
- Infrastructure equipment and spectrum
- Network operations
- End-user devices
- Application software
On the panel, Aude Schoentgen spoke on developments in AI and how machine learning is leading to greater efficiency and capability in networks. She also considered how networks may become more specialised to enable greater capability for industrial use.
Tim closed the panel by asking each participant what they thought the most important trend was, and what would be most important in the developing world. Responses were varied, ranging from 5G network investment to a greater focus on data security.
