Tony Lavender took part in a panel session on network development and spectrum in Hong Kong

At the GSMA/Huawei Mobile Broadband (MBB) event in Hong Kong Tony Lavender took part in a panel session on network development and spectrum in Asia. Tony’s input concentrated on the report Plum recently produced for the GSMA on the use of C-Band spectrum in London and Shenzhen. The report shows that while protecting the incumbent satellite and fixed link services that use the band it is possible to obtain avoided infrastructure cost benefits of €401m over the period 2018 to 2028 by making some of the spectrum in the frequency range 3400-4200 MHz available for mobile. The availability of this spectrum assists with the avoidance of a capacity crunch in both cities, which would be detrimental to network performance and customer experience at a time when mobile data traffic is forecast to be growing rapidly.
