TV multiplex licence

Avanti consulting were applying for the local TV multiplex operator licence being advertised by Ofcom, and had a need for technical support in modelling coverage and interference issues, as well as a ‘letter of support’ for their bid.  Extensive modelling of DVB-T single frequency networks was undertaken, taking interference from the current UK DTT network[…]

DTT licence bid

This study provided supported for a DTT licence bid in Malaysia.  Specifically sections of the Sapura licence proposal concerning planning standards and coverage issues were drafted.  Coverage predictions for some of the sites proposed were run using the in-house planning tool, Aardvaark, to model the proposed SFN (Single Frequency Network).

DTT Workshop

The Digital TV Group (DTG) were concerned that they have little visibility of the issues surrounding spectrum use and regulation at UHF and elsewhere.  A bespoke brainstorming / workshop session was developed and delivered to meet their requirements.

DTT briefing note

The purpose of the study was to develop a briefing note that covered the issues concerning the amount of radio spectrum required by terrestrial television services once they have migrated from analogue to digital transmission. The note explores the different digital TV technologies used around the world (PAL, ISDB, ATSC).  It also considers the other technical issues,[…]

Long duration propagation measurements

Following on from a previous study measuring equipment, that had been used to investigate the technical and consumer impact of time-varying interference to digital TV services, was maintained for a further year in Brighton and Southwold to monitor interfering signals and propagation variability from the continent.  In addition a series of associated measurements were made using[…]

Greek digital dividend

The study examined options for the re-planning of the proposed Greek DTT network to allow the release of UHF spectrum above channel 60. It specifically considered the impact on the plan for the migration from analogue to digital of releasing the spectrum and the ability to support the planned TV stations and associated regional and national[…]

Practicality of on-channel repeaters for DTT

The study  analysed the possibility of repairing holes caused by base station transmitters in digital TV coverage areas by deploying repeaters. The approach was based on co-locating a small TV ‘booster’ transmitter at any interfering base station.  The aim was to increase the available TV signal in the area to an extent sufficient to protect[…]

Digital TV Switchover process support

The Sekreteriat, charged with informing the Danish public about the Digital TV Switchover process (DSO), wished to understand the technical issues relating to off-air reception by the public. The study provided a report summarising general DTT issues, such as the impact of household aerial condition, the interpretation of coverage maps and man-made noise. In addition,[…]
