The study estimated the risk of interference into breathing apparatus telemetry systems operating at 862.9625 MHz used by the Fire and Rescue Services (FRS) in the UK. The work undertaken fell into two parts; in the first part laboratory testing of breathing apparatus telemetry systems was undertaken to establish relevant interference limits while the second part of the work developed a simple statistical model with which the risk of interference under different conditions could be predicted.
In line with the results of practical trials conducted by the FRS and Ofcom, a further study was implemented to develop a more detailed software tool based on a mix of statistical and time-sequential modelling to provide an accurate estimate of interference.
