Fixed wireless services review

The study examined the current use of fixed link spectrum and developed a number of potential scenarios for which spectrum demand was estimated to provide an understanding of potential future demand trends for fixed link spectrum and inform future policy.

The studied identified major users and uses for fixed terrestrial links and the extent of use of shared bands for fixed satellite services (FSS). Hypothetical scenarios were developed based on a number of parameters that were likely to have a particular impact (e.g. the economy, public service demand) on fixed link spectrum demand. The scenarios then were used to estimate future demand for downstream services and the broadband services demand, fibre availability, satellite services demand, associated impact on fixed link spectrum requirements. A model was then developed from the scenarios to estimate predicted demand, for different frequency ranges and geographic areas to gain an understanding of the likely implications for rural, sub-urban and dense urban areas.
