Advice on TV broadcast standards in Singapore

Plum and Aegis advised the Media Development Authority of Singapore on the development of a Code of Practice for TV broadcast standards. The study included a review of international standards and regulations for broadcast TV services across different distribution mechanisms including terrestrial broadcasting, cable, IPTV and over-the-top (OTT). A consultation with stakeholders was also conducted.[…]

Survey of cognitive radio developments

The study undertaken with consulting firm RTT reviewed the standardisation activities for cognitive radio.  The activities of ETSI, IEEE, IETF and ECMA were examined in detail.  As part of the study the key barriers and enablers of the adoption of cognitive radio were identified as shown in the figure below. The study also explored various[…]

TV multiplex licence

Avanti consulting were applying for the local TV multiplex operator licence being advertised by Ofcom, and had a need for technical support in modelling coverage and interference issues, as well as a ‘letter of support’ for their bid.  Extensive modelling of DVB-T single frequency networks was undertaken, taking interference from the current UK DTT network[…]

DAB receiver test methods

It was being proposed that DAB receivers should carry some form of certification mark, to indicate an acceptable level of performance.  To allow such a scheme, it was necessary to develop a robust and repeatable method for receiver sensitivity testing.  This study compared the sensitivity measurements obtained using two different test methods – one using[…]

DTT licence bid

This study provided supported for a DTT licence bid in Malaysia.  Specifically sections of the Sapura licence proposal concerning planning standards and coverage issues were drafted.  Coverage predictions for some of the sites proposed were run using the in-house planning tool, Aardvaark, to model the proposed SFN (Single Frequency Network).

DTT Workshop

The Digital TV Group (DTG) were concerned that they have little visibility of the issues surrounding spectrum use and regulation at UHF and elsewhere.  A bespoke brainstorming / workshop session was developed and delivered to meet their requirements.

Co-existence between LTE and Analogue TV

The study examined the potential for a 10 MHz FDD LTE network roll-out in major population centres in South Africa in the Region 1 digital dividend band (i.e. 790 – 862 MHz).  It reviewed analogue TV use in South Africa, established representative modelling parameters, developed appropriate sharing criteria and interference analysis methods and examined the[…]

In-home propagation measurements

The study provided coverage statistics for in-home propagation at different frequencies, and in particular obtained a comparison between coverage statistics at 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz. The background requirement was to understand the possible utility of UHF spectrum for Wi-Fi type applications, and to understand the opportunities and limitations afforded by the 5 GHz band[…]
