Plum was part of a consortium examining all aspects of Public Protection and Disaster Relief (PPDR) systems under European research programme FP7.
Plum was involved in the development of the reference usage scenarios with the aim of identifying the typical current and anticipated future operational scenarios faced by PPDR operatives and the related communications needs, including routine “day to day”, planned major events and unplanned major incidents or disasters. The information was sourced from previous studies, including ones where Plum was involved, feedback from stakeholders and desk research. In addition to the scenarios the analysis identified some areas where there were issues with the existing PPDR solutions.
Then based on the reference scenarios the required services and applications and associated network performance were identified to enable a technology gap analysis to be undertaken.
The study included active participation to various standardisation bodies to present study findings and obtain up-to-date information on the state of current standards. Further details of the project can be found at https://www.ppdr-tc.eu/
