Roadmap for C-band spectrum in ASEAN

The 3.5 GHz band is a core spectrum band for 5G deployment globally and many countries have either assigned this spectrum or are making preparations to do so. In the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) region, the 3.5 GHz band is used by different satellite and fixed services and its availability is less clear.

Plum, together with Windsor Place Consulting, developed a report for the GSMA on the roadmap for the 3.5 GHz band in the ASEAN region.

This report discusses the current use of the C-band in ASEAN, the different options to release the band for mobile use and the factors that need to be taken into account in deciding the way forward. Recommendations for developing the roadmap to release the 3.5 GHz band are then provided.

The findings were presented at a workshop for ASEAN regulators organised by Vietnam’s Authority of Radio Frequency Management and the GSMA on 16th August 2019.
